On Wednesday from 9 to 11:00 am, a panel discussion, "Facing the Future of Dietary Supplements," addresses the consumer confidence crisis brought about by the New York Attorney General's recent inves- tigation, concerns over new dietary ingredients (NDIs) and steroid pre- cursors, and other issues in the head- lines. Panelists include Dan Fabricant, CEO and executive direc- tor of the Natural Products Association; Loren Israelsen, presi- dent of the United Natural Products Alliance; Mike McGuffin, president of the American Herbal Products Association; and Steve Mister, CEO and president of the Council for Responsible Nutrition. Additional panel discussions include "Breaking Away from the Pharma Model" and "Fighting and Detecting Botanical Adulteration." Workshops throughout the week will cover probiotics, sports nutrition, preparing for inspections, botanical testing, batch production record- keeping, quality agreements with contract manufacturers, and pre-mar- ket regulatory compliance. T&C SupplySide West trade show and con- ference comes to Mandalay Bay Hotel, Las Vegas, NV, October 5-9. Organiz- ers expect at least 15,000 attendees and more than 2,000 exhibitors, including ingredient suppliers, CMOs, equipment vendors, and packagers serving the con- sumer packaged goods market for dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, sports nutrition, personal care, and food and beverages. Networking opportuni- ties include breakfast and lunch brief- ings, Editor's Choice Awards, a recep- tion for first-time attendees, and a golf tournament. Education Educational opportunities include a 2-day training course in dietary supplement good manufacturing practices (GMPs) as defined in 21 CFR Part 111. The course runs from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday and Tuesday, October 5 and 6. Topics include manufacturing, quality control/assur- ance, laboratory operations, labeling, auditing, suppliers and distributors, and regulatory affairs. On Tuesday afternoon, you can choose from four "SupplySide Summits" covering demographics- based marketing strategies, omega-3 products and consumer trust, cogni- tive health products, and functional foods.
