Development Committee UPDATE The Development Committee, a group of members selected annually from the Capitol Committee, is charged with assisting in bring- ing in new organizations and guiding the vision of the U.S. Capitol Historical Society. This year, the Development Committee is off to a running start: we are at $755,500, well on our way to our $1,200,000 goal! This is in large part to the generosity of our newest supporters, along with loyal members who recently rejoined. We would like to say a special thank-you to the following: • Wells Fargo • CitiGroup • TE Connectivity • USAA • Freeport • Investment Company Institute • DIRECTV • Emergent Biosolutions • Zurich Financial • BBVA Compass • Bridgestone Americas • Nationwide Insurance • Dominion • American Society of Clinical Oncology • Lockheed Martin • Raytheon • Texas Instruments 16 THE CAPITOL DOME SPRING 2012 Development Committee SPOTLIGHT Don Carlson has been a loyal and involved supporter of the U.S. Capitol Historical Society for many years. Carlson currently serves as Co- Chair of the Capitol Committee's Develop- ment Committee. He has served on the Development Committee since the early 2000s, securing numerous new support- ers annually as well as bringing charm and warmth to every Capitol Committee event. Additionally, Carlson served one full term on the Board, from 2008 through 2011. Carlson's dedication to the Capitol stems from a 34-year-long tenure serving Congress; he worked for Congressman Bill Archer (TX-7), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, for 30 of those years. Currently, Carlson serves as managing director in the Washington National Tax Services office of Pricewater- house Coopers LLP, providing strategic advice as well as legislative, executive branch, and regulatory representation for both domestic and international clients on various issues. Carlson studied International Relations (B.A.) at the School of International Serv- ice at the American University in Washing- ton, D.C. He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1970 to 1976. We consider ourselves very lucky that Don considers working with us "a labor of love." Thank you, Don, for all you do for us, and for helping to bring the history, strength, and beauty of the Capitol and Congress to the rest of the world.
