"We try to weave the story in an appropriate way throughout the property," Cochran says. The spa, which is the second largest in the Western US, incorporates a variety of East- West treatments including massage, acupunc- ture, facials, and the Gaviota Ritual, a "soul cleansing by sand and sea," with an herbal mas- sage, sea of life facial, and a Zen walk to the beach with a sacred circle ritual. The spa includes a fitness center, complete Pilates studio, Tai Chi and Qi Gong classes, partners' yoga, and a full-service salon. "All kinds of thought went into creating spaces where people don't run into each other and where real relaxation can occur," Cochran explains. "You can't tell it's very big. We have four levels, all kinds of sitting areas, a pool and a rooftop lounge. Our providers are top notch. We don't settle for anything other than the best, and offer thoughtful and enriching treatments." Breathtaking and award-winning dining options are also interspersed throughout the property. For dinner, the more formal Ocean House overlooks the ocean and offers items such as prime hangar steak, King crab leg, and Stunning saltwater pools (left) are the focal point at Bacara Resort & Spa.
