Dean The University of Iowa's Henry B. Tippie College of Business invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, to take office July 1, 2006. Building on a decade of great progress, the College strives to become one of the top fifteen business schools among public uni- versities and to sustain its faculty's record of excellence in academic research. The University seeks an exceptional leader in what promises to be an exciting era for the College, its students, and its communities. Background and Position As part of a top tier public research university, the Tippie College of Business seeks to educate students from the region, nation, and around the world to contribute to society throughout their personal and professional lives. We offer outstanding and focused undergraduate and grad- uate programs from a faculty that exhibits excellence in basic and applied research. The Tippie College of Business offers a selective, high-qual- ity undergraduate program, distinguished and unique interdisciplinary certificates in international business and entrepreneurship, six PhD programs, and three MBA programs. These include a selective, full-time, on-campus MBA program, consistently ranked in the top-50 world- wide; a relatively large statewide evening MBA program; and a lock-step, personalized executive MBA program offered both on campus and abroad. The Tippie College's Dean reports to the Provost, serves as the College's chief academic and executive officer, and is responsible for the aca- demic, administrative and fiscal leadership of the College. The Dean will provide intellectual and executive leadership in administering the College's six academic departments and six institutes to advance the College as a national leader. The Dean is responsible, in consultation with members of the University community, for articulating and sustaining a strategic vision for the College, as well as securing and allocating the resources and support necessary to achieve that vision. The Dean will represent the College in its interactions with both internal and external constituencies, and will strive for a welcoming environment for a diverse faculty, staff and student body. Required qualifications include a record of excellence in teaching, scholarly achievement, and service appropriate for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor in a department of the College. The ability to articulate a vision for the future of the College consistent with the values of the University of Iowa (Excellence, Learning, Community, Diversity, Integrity, & Respect) is necessary, in addition to excellent com- munication skills, including receptivity, responsiveness, and willingness to listen and consult. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated record of commitment to diversity among faculty, staff and students and a documented record of administrative/budgetary success at the department level or beyond. Others with comparable accomplishments in the public or private sectors relevant to university administration are also encouraged to apply. Leading candidates will also have demonstrated success in developing and stewarding financial resources through work with external constituencies. The University of Iowa is located in Iowa City, a thriving 60,000-person university town located in eastern Iowa.
