IBS REVIEW More than 51,000 builders, remodelers and other members of the home building industry attended the 2012 National Association of Home Builders' International Builders' Show (IBS), which ended its four-day run at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL, on February 11. Often seen as a barometer of the year ahead, attendees and exhibitors searched for signs of optimism for the industry's re- covery. In the storm and protection industry, there were some good signs. Following an active 2011 hurricane season that saw the impact of Hurricane Irene, the first landfalling cyclone since 2008, it was good to find product suppliers throughout the ex- hibit hall actively and specifically targeting storm and security protection markets. Among the more than 900 exhibitors, product highlights in- cluded: Crimsafe stainless steel security window and door screen. The patented screw clamp design secures the 304-grade stain- less steel mesh making it almost impossible to penetrate. Com- bined with an extruded aluminum frame it results in a hurricane-rated security screen that includes four Miami-Dade NOAs and four Florida Building Code product approvals cover- ing, HVHZ, ASTM 1886, ASTM 1996 & ASTM E330. Eastern Architectural Systems, a division of Eastern Metal | by Howard Shingle | TIME TO GET STARTED Supply, showcased aluminum and vinyl impact windows and doors. Wayne-Dalton's complete line of Fabric Shield storm pro- tection products can be correctly installed by the homeowner. The lightweight, flexible panels are compliant with Florida Build- ing Code and Texas Department of Insurance Evaluation. They also are offered in translucent styles to allow diffused light to enter when in use. Made in the U.S.A. Smart Vent flood vents are ICC-ES eval- uated, FEMA-accepted and approved by the Florida Building Code Commission. The Smart Vent door latches closed until floodwater lifts internal floats, which unlatches and rotates the door open. This allows floodwater to automatically enter and exit through the frame opening, relieving the pressure off foundation walls. The Storm Stud from Muhler is built into the window to allow fastening for hurricane protection. The Storm Stud is tested and meets ASTM hurricane requirements. The advan- tages of the Storm Stud allow the builder to get the best return for his investment in hurricane protection. Storm Stud is a safe, reliable, tested and affordable hurricane protection solution. The 304-grade stainless steel mesh makes Crimsafe an almost impossible to penetrate hurricane-rated security screen. The Storm Stud from Muhler allows builders to get the best return for their investments in hurricane protection that is safe, reliable and tested. 10 STORM&SeCuRITy PROTeCTION / 2012 DIRECTORY & RESOURCE GUIDE
