BAUMAN NAMED INTERIM PROVOST AND VICE CHANCELLOR Dean will later return to College of Pharmacy C HANCELLOR PAULA ALLEN-MEARES HAS RECOMMENDED JERRY L. BAUMAN, dean of the College of Pharmacy, as interim provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The appointment took effect Jan. 3. Bauman began his career at UIC in 1979 as an assistant professor of pharmacy practice in the College of Pharmacy, before moving up to become assistant head for academic affairs, assistant head for research, head of the department of pharmacy practice, interim dean in 2006 and dean since 2007. "Dean Bauman has served UIC with distinction for more than 30 years as a teacher, researcher and administrator," Allen-Meares wrote in an e-mail announcing her selection. "He is highly regarded and respected for his leadership and is deeply committed to UIC. During his tenure as dean, he has expanded the college's programs and built upon its tradition of excellence." Bauman is not a candidate for the permanent position and will return to his current role as pharmacy dean once the permanent successor to Provost Michael Tanner is named, Allen-Meares wrote. Bauman received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois at the Medical Center (now UIC) and a PharmD degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. His extensive research on the clinical pharmacology of cocaine and the proarrhythmic side effects of antiarrhythmic agents and other drugs earned him the Russell Miller Award for Research in 1994. Bauman is also a fellow in both the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and the American College of Cardiology. Jerry L. Bauman has served more than three decades at UIC.
