I
n September 2015, the Food and Drug Administration
released its final rule on Preventive Controls for
Human and Animal Food. This came nearly five years
after Congress passed the Food Safety Modernization
Act, which increases the power of the FDA, includ-
ing mandatory recall and inspection responsibilities.
Basically, FSMA changes the FDA's responsibility to
preventing unsafe food instead of simply responding
when an outbreak occurs.
