60 SMOKESHOP February 2016 >>>TOBACCO PRODUCTS & MANUFACTURER PROMOTIONS NEWS Brand Henry Clay Stalk Cut Launched by Altadis U.S.A. Altadis U.S.A. continues to draw attention to one of its lower profile handmade cigar lines, the Dominican-made, broadleaf-wrapped Henry Clay, with the introduction of the new Henry Clay Stalk Cut. The new line, produced alongside other Henry Clay lines at Tabacalera de Garcia in La Romana, Dominican Republic, features a specially processed dark Connecticut broadleaf wrapper that is stalk cut—a traditional harvesting method of broadleaf tobacco whereby the plant's entire stalk is cut and hung to dry in tobacco barns. The method allows the tobacco to retain its natural nutrients, yielding richer, more flavorful leaves, Altadis explains. In addition, all of the tobaccos used in the cigar's blend are vintage dated. The dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper is from the 2012 crop, paired to a blend of 2012 Dominican Olor, 2012 Dominican Piloto, and 2013 Nicaraguan Criollo fill- ers and a 2012 Dominican Piloto binder. Developed by the Altadis U.S.A. blend- ing team known as the Grupo de Maestros, the blend delivers a full-bodied smoke, "bold and robust with earthy notes." The new line is available in three sizes, all featuring the line's hallmark box press format: Gran Corona (6 x 46 ring gauge pig tail), Robusto (5 x 50), and Toro (6 x 54), priced between $8.00 and $8.50 per cigar. The cigars are presented in 20-count gray lacquer cedar boxes, in two ribbon-bound bundles of 10. Unlike last year's Henry Clay Tattoo—a limited edition joint project between Altadis U.S.A. and Tatuaje Cigars founder Pete Johnson that released only 2,500 boxes—Henry Clay Stalk Cut is a regular production release. Altadis U.S.A. has established a dedicated website for the new brand at henryclaystalkcut.com that fully explains the stalk cut process. It also announced that production of core line Henry Clays will be increased in 2016 and that additional line extensions are planned. Altadis U.S.A.
