62 SMOKESHOP February 2016 Macanudo's New Look General Cigar has modernized the design of its iconic Macanudo logo for the U.S. market. Macanudo Café, Macanudo Maduro, Macanudo Crü Royale, and Macanudo 1968 now fea- ture the brand's new look. "The Macanudo logo has evolved to a more contemporary design, and packaging has been updated for visual consistency throughout the portfolio. The changes will make Macanudo even more appealing on shelf and more relevant to current and new cigar smokers," said Alan Willner, vice presi- dent of marketing for General Cigar. While the color schemes remain unchanged, the new logo is "stron- ger, more confident, and features the Macanudo word mark more prominently beneath the logo," says General Cigar. Macanudo Crü Royale will now be presented in a wrap-set box to match the packaging of the other cigars in line, while Macanudo 1968 will move from a cabinet-style to shell-top box. Additionally, the bands for Macanudo Café will be updated with a shiny metallic gold foil, while Macanudo Crü Royale bands will feature silver foil. The redesign marks the first change to the logo and packaging since the company began selling Macanudo nearly 50 years ago. "While the look has progressed, the blends have not changed," stressed Willner. Launched in 1968, Macanudo Café is General Cigar's top-selling premi- um cigar brand and is available world- wide. The brand is best known for its mild flavor and silky Connecticut shade wrapper. General Cigar, Glen Ellen, Va., Web: cigarworld.com, Macanudo.com. Suriel's Robusto Day & Night, Toro Majestuoso Pigtail Coming to U.S. More than a year after their debut in the Dominican Republic, Suriel Cigars are arriving in U.S. market. Company founder Uriel Suriel and Hendrik Kelner Jr. of Kelner Boutique Factory teamed up to create two unique blends, each offered in a single size, and both featuring natural-color Cubra (Cuban seed) Brazilian wrappers. Robusto Day & Night is crafted in a 5 x 52 format from a blend of tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Peru, in addition to the Brazilian wrapper, delivering a rich, sweet and creamy yet subtle smoke. The goal was to create a blend that provides a "pleasant and interesting complexity that could be perfectly smoked at any time of the day," explains Suriel. Suriel Cigar's Toro Majestuoso Pigtail is a reblended version of the original Toro Majestuoso that also adds a pigtail cap. Delivered in a 6 x 56 format, elegance meets aroma, sweetness and creaminess in a filler-binder blend of four different tobaccos from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Peru, and Pennsylvania with a Dominican binder, Uriel says the cigar delivers a perfectly balanced smoke that's a bit stronger than the original blend. Both cigars are presented in high-quality lacquered cedar boxes, with sug- gested retail prices of $8 and $10 per stick, respectively. Cigar Company and Asylum Cigars are releasing Asylum 13 Connecticut, the latest blend in the Asylum 13 large ring gauge series. The cigar was blended by C.L.E.'s Christian Eiroa and Asylum's Tom Lazuka and is being rolled in Honduras from Honduran filler and binder, then finished with a golden-hued Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, a departure from Asylum's typi- cally Nicaraguan-based blends. "Asylum cigars are known for being more full-bodied and Nicaraguan. We wanted to blend something different and lighter into the portfolio" says Lazuka. Three sizes are offered: 5 x 50, 6 x 60, packaged in 50-count boxes, and a 7 x 70, which is packaged in 30-count boxes. Suggested retail prices range from $5.80 to $7.80 per stick. Asylum 13 is scheduled to ship at the end of February. Asylum Cigars, Email: info@asylumcigars.com, distributed by C.L.E. Cigars, Miami, Fla., Tel: (702) 906-1806, Web: clecigars.com. Brand NEWS
