Alumni News Over six decades in the making 60- to 65-year reunion set for Sept. 17 If Clarence Tuma and Gerald Oehmke had their way, all CMU graduates from 1946 to 1951 would start making plans to come to Mount Pleasant on Sept. 17, 2011. That's when the combined 60- to 65-year reunion gala is set for alumni to reconnect and reminisce about their days at what then was Central Michigan College of Education. Event specifi cs are being fi nalized, but plans are in the works for an evening of music and dancing in the newly refurbished Powers Ballroom, which previously was the Keeler Union. Even though they never talked with each other about the idea, within a two-day period, Tuma, '50, '07, and Oehmke, '51, both approached CMU Alumni Relations about hosting an event for alumni who attended Central in the years just after World War II. "What we were thinking was for another reunion of 'The Greatest Generation,'" says Tuma. "It was a great time for all of us." Tuma and Oehmke started pulling together a committee of volunteers – many who also helped with CMU's War Years Reunion in 2000 – to coordinate the celebration. The group is meeting regularly to plan the festivities and compile lists to ensure as many alumni as possible receive invitations to attend. "It all sounds really exciting," says Georgia (Clendening) Warner, '47, a member of the planning committee.
