We organized this dinner to show our appreciation for all who have supported The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions during our first 10 years of existence. The Friends dinner provided an opportunity to showcase the outcomes of our donors' support over the years. It provided an opportunity to connect our donors with the beneficiaries of their generosity. And, by the way, it gave us an opportunity to show off the spectacular Health Professions Building. The Friends dinner was more than just a dinner – it was an event. The evening started with opportunities to socialize and take tours of the building. The tours provided an opportunity to see our classrooms, laboratories, technology infrastructure, Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education, and even our new Knowledge Bar. The tours were "live action" and highlighted the activities of our students and faculty. Some attendees even joined in on the action. The program started with remarks from CMU Provost Gary Shapiro, Vice President of Development and External Relations Kathleen Wilbur, me and Advisory Board Chairperson Gregg Gooch. Then our invited speaker, Olga Dazzo, director of the Michigan Department of Community Health, shared her view on the future of the health professions in Michigan and beyond. Her address was insightful and encouraging for the future of our graduates. She left little doubt that the growth of the health professions will continue for the foreseeable future and that our graduates will be essential in maintaining the health of Michigan's citizens. The success of the Friends dinner exceeded our expectations. So much so that we have decided to make this an annual event. I hope to see all of our donors – present and future – at the event next year. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this issue of the Pulse. Please share your news with us so we can include it in future issues.
