Young Ar tist Depicts Presidents and Celebrities B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D S cott Jacobs has been painting and drawing since he was a young boy. "I pretty much came out of the womb with a crayon in my hand," the young artist jokes. The Marlborough, Connecticut, native has art in his genes: his grandparents met while stu- dents at the Boston College of Fine Art and his great uncle was Daniel Charles French, designer of the famous statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial. But it was another Washington, D.C. resident whose likeness brought Jacobs to the notice of the art world. "I was moved by Barack Obama's speech- es," Jacobs says. "So I wanted to make a paint- ing of him." The 2008 painting, entitled "Someday Has Come," depicts the 44th President in rolled- up shir tsleeves against an American flag backdrop. "I got a lot of publicity from that," Jacobs says. Offers to display his work rolled in, including one from the Pegasus Collection in Carmel, on Lincoln near Ocean. "They gave me the opportunity to have my own gallery," recalls Jacobs. "This is a beautiful place—a great place for art." Jacobs works primarily in oils and watercolors. His latest major piece is one of actor Bill Murray in the same style as the Obama painting. "I've always loved him and his movies," he says. More information on Scott Jacobs is available at www.thepegasuscollection.com. SHORTCUTS ART A 2008 painting of President Barack Obama garnered rave reviews for young artist Scott Jacobs.
