36 May 2016 Tablets & Capsules through the gastrointestinal tract and the oral, vaginal, and peritoneal cavi- ties; "Manufacture, Characterization, Stability, and Regulatory Aspects," which explores the technologies used to develop controlled-release prod- ucts and how they scale into commer- cially viable process technologies; and "Oral Delivery," which examines advances in delivery science and technology for both systemically and locally acting oral formulations. Plenary sessions The plenary sessions feature "Application of Controlled Release and Drug Devlivery Technology to Address Global Health Needs" by Susan Hershenson of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She will discuss how controlled-release tech- nology and innovative drug delivery systems can address the challenges of developing and delivering healthcare to people living in resource-poor regions. The Foundation supports novel drug delivery technologies in several fields, including women's health, HIV prevention, and long- acting oral delivery. Industry roundtables Industry roundtables are interac- tive sessions where a panel of experts share their findings and opinions on narrow topics. The July 20 session, "Next Generation Technologies— The annual Controlled Release Society (CRS) meeting and exposi- tion will take place July 17-20 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA. This year's theme is "Advancing Delivery Science & Technology Innovation." Organizers anticipate more than 1,200 attendees from 45 countries and over 80 exhibitors. It will feature more than 150 podium presentations, 700 poster sessions, and 20 scientific sessions. Conference attendees can choose from more than a dozen net- working gatherings and several mini- symposia, roundtables, and panels. Most attendees are industry and aca- demic professionals working in drug delivery, drug development, formula- tion, R&D, dissolution testing, tech- nical science, and particle design. Scientific sessions The educational program includes "Delivery Technologies in Nutra - ceutical, Foods, and Oral Products," which covers all aspects of oral deliv- ery science and product development for immediate-, sustained-, delayed- and pulsed-release; "Local Drug Delivery," which focuses on new for- mulations for targeted drug delivery The Future of Toolbox Technologies" will feature speakers from drug deliv- ery companies who will address tech- nologies for targeted delivery, creat- ing nano particles, and using nucleic acid for drug delivery. The next day, Capsugel will sponsor "Current Trends in Bioavailability Enhancing Technologies." It brings together panel members from the pharmaceu- tical industry, contract research orga- nizations, market research agencies, and academia. Pre-meeting workshops Half-day and full-day workshops are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, July 16-17. They include Capsugel's workshop "Considerations and Ap - proaches for Optimized Pediatric Formulations," which will focus on using multiparticulates and taste mask- ing and will discuss how to select the right technology and how to scale up a functional coating operation.
