NASFT History The history of NASFT begins with the future. Or rather, the association's history is best appreciated by knowing how future-oriented it has always been. Early in the 1950s, a group of businessmen SHUFHLYHG WKH QHHG IRU D XQLÀ HG YRLFH UHSUHVHQWLQJ manufacturers, importers and retailers of specialty foods. The pressing motive for forming a trade association was to seek relief from U.S. government- imposed levies and other restrictions on imported foods. The underlying purpose was to create a professional information source for all aspects of the specialty food industry.
