For the latest Carson-Newman news, visit: cn.edu/news About the Cover: Barrett Hedges '08 winds down for the evening with aurora borealis (northern lights) as his backdrop. Finding the best locations for wildlife sometimes requires the celebrated photographer to take up to a month-long stretch using his vehicle for lodging. EDITOR'S NOTE What makes Carson-Newman different is subjective. It can, however, be difficult to put into words what differentiates it. One way is retelling of experiences and stories – anecdotes that paint individual pictures of what happens at Mossy Creek. On May 6 of this year, a member of the first cohort to receive Carson-Newman doctorates walked across the stage sporting a pair of bright yellow Converse All Stars. It wasn't the hue of Nola Isobe's shoes that left everyone talking; it was the story of how they got there and how they carried her to the stage that evening. Dr. Isobe is just one example of what makes Carson-Newman, Carson-Newman. See the back cover and then go online to see this special moment as it happened. J. Charles Key Editor
