change. The proprietary jackets, rebated rim, lead core, and short driving bands make these gentle on barrels, too." H ober warned that not all cartridges are likely to be online immediately, but the most popular will, and the rest will be moved into the market as soon as they can be without sacrificing quality. By the way, each and every Swift cartridge will be waterproof-sealed. Like Hober told me, you don't want to fall into a moose swamp, emerge to find the bull of your dreams, and hear a click when you pull the trigger. "We're not fooling around," the burly bullet builder said. "This is serious ammunition for serious hunters. It's supposed to work . . . it has to work and it will work. Every time." Based on my testing with a few boxes of .243 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, and .375 H&H Magnum, I believe him. The samples flowed through my rifles smoothly and flawlessly, cycling in and out with no dragging, no sticking, no hiccups. It all went bang, too. Everything chronographed at upper-end velocities for their category. The .375 H&H 300-grain A-Frame loads grouped sub- MOA through a Blaser R8 and a Dakota M97 at an average 2,600 fps. My Kilimanjaro in .243 Win. put four 90-grain Sciroccos into an inch at a scorching 3,104 fps. And these were prototypes. Swift's final category, Heavy Revolver, will include seven cartridges from .357 Magnum through .500 S&W Magnum. Hollow Point A-Frame Bonded bullets will top them all, and all will be built on nickeled cases. The only Swift bullets that won't be loaded by the new Swift Cartridge Company will be its muzzleloader bullets. Those you still have to load yourself. n game hunters. This was general medicine for every big game critter from bighorns atop the crags to elk across the canyon. I seated Sciroccos atop everything from .22-250 Ackleys to .300 Weatherby Magnums and ran the table. Sciroccos flat out delivered. Anyone who wanted flat trajectory, minimum wind deflection, and deep penetration at a distance investigated Sciroccos. But again, loaded ammo was hard to find. T hat ends now. Swift High Grade Hunting Ammunition hits the shops this fall in a broad selection of popular big game, dangerous game, and heavy revolver calibers. A Medium Game/Big Game series features Sciroccos and A-Frames on 11 popular rounds from .223 Remington through .338 Lapua. In addition, there's a .45-70 Govt. Lever Action loading featuring a 350-grain A-Frame. All these are built on neck-annealed brass cases, with the darker annealed finish left as evidence of this superior process. Handloaders will spot it instantly and love it. The Dangerous Game series will initially include 12 cartridges from 9.3x62 through .500 Jeffery. All will be built on nickeled cases fitted with A-Frames and Swift Break-Away solids, a new bullet engineered for straight-line penetration and lots of it. Unusual for a dangerous game solid, Break-Aways include a polymer Break- Away tip, a cap that sits over a shallow hollowpoint, what Swift calls a "cavitated" front nose. Behind this short nose is a rebated ogive that does not engage a barrel's rifling. That job is handled by a full diameter driving band at the rear. The extra-thick metal jacket is made of proprietary materials, and locked-in lead fills its core to add driving mass. According to Hober, the gently rounded, polymer tip aids in flawless magazine feeding, but on striking game breaks away to expose the cavitated nose. This plows what Hober describes as "a perfectly straight wound channel." In development for two years, Break- Aways have been "tested extensively on elephant and buffalo by myself and a bunch of PHs and other hunters," Hober said. "It's the real deal, and we've matched it to our A-Frame loads in the same cartridges so point of impact doesn't S P O R T I N G C L A S S I C S • 107
