Agriculture program
grows some 25 differ-
ent items specifically
for their CSA boxes.
Talley wines. Just opening the box releases
the grassy aroma of farmland; soil is still
clinging to the roots of the lettuces. Apples
are unwaxed, with a crunch that releases a
stunning array of flavors.
"Freshness sets our program apart," Tal-
ley says. "We like to harvest the day before
shipping. Most produce in grocery stores
was picked a minimum of a week before be-
ing offered for sale. I cook a lot at home and
those few extra days of freshness are really
noticeable at the table."
In fact, Talley is writing a cookbook, Our
California Table, that will be published
by Story Farm Press next year. "I love that
we've found a way to share our produce
with the local community," he says."
