STORY AND ILLUSTRATION BY JEFF COX
Not some guy named Jimmy Nardello, but the sweet Italian frying pepper of that name.
Last year a friend grew this pepper in her garden and gave me a handful. They were so
sweet and crunchy raw, and so sweet and creamy fried, that I knew I had to grow some in
my garden this year. So in late March I started seed, planting them out in late May. By mid-
June they started flowering, and by mid-July, I was astonished by how prolific they were.
