PORTFOLIO ~ P.47 WINSTON GALLERY Featuring Artist Richard Lauritzen TEXT BY HAYLEY LERAY L ocated in the heart of downtown Great Falls, Winston Gallery features an artist who reflects and captures the heart of Montana dur- ing Western Art Week. Painter Richard Lauritzen is a retired surgeon with a lifelong pas- sion for painting and fishing. Taking up art as a second career, Laurit- zen casts his talent onto the can- vas, capturing the majestic and remote areas of Big Sky Country. Lauritzen is hailed for his robust and sophisticated approach to com- position and his ability to commu- nicate the very spirit of his subjects. An avid outdoorsman, Lauritzen can often be found standing in or in close proximity to some of Mon- tana's blue ribbon trout rivers with fly rod in hand. Paintings of solitary fishermen in his signature moody style has reeled in many fans in the art and sporting world. Lauritzen's paintings have been juried into The Russell Auction for the past eight years. During Art Week 2017, his work will again be auc- tioned both Friday and Saturday evenings at The Russell. He is also a member of the Montana Paint- ers Alliance, a group of the state's finest plein air painters. Lauritzen is represented by Winston Gallery in Great Falls, and Creighton Block Gallery in Big Sky, Montana. The Lauritzen exhibit at Winston Gallery will include an assortment of Montana landscapes as well as a range and interpretation of different subject matter. He will also be at the gallery throughout Western Art Week event days with the possibility of demonstrating his technique on a small piece of artwork. Winston Gallery typically features a variety of artists from Montana as well as from across the country. The artists represent a wide variety of mediums including bronzes, woodcarvings, oils and batiks. A collection of other artwork will also be on display and avail- able for sale at the gallery during Western Art Week.
