SUKHI'S GOURMET INDIAN FOODS Chicken Samosas & Chutney
SAMOSAS, CURRY, NAAN—THESE STAPLES OF INDIAN CUISINE have become so popular among Americans that it doesn't come as a surprise that Sukhi's Gourmet Indian Foods is behind this year's Gold Winner for Outstanding Frozen Savory. Oftentimes convenience compromises quality, but this is not the case with Sukhi's Chicken Samosas. The samosas (and the rest of the product line) are individually hand- wrapped and made with all-natural ingredients. "We want to automate the process because the demand is so high, but we just haven't found something comparable," explains Sanjog Sikand, sales and marketing director for Sukhi's, adding that the company produces about 120,000 samosas a week. "Until we do, we will continue making them by hand." The pastries, filled with spiced ground chicken and peas, are easy to prepare and remarkably crispy. Served with Sukhi's popular Cilantro Chutney, the samosas work well as a side dish or snack—an adventurous and tasty alternative to conventional frozen food options. "It fits the American lifestyle," says Sikand. "Rather than having to commit to a full dish of Indian food, you can just grab one and go." Sukhi's extensive product line includes two other sofi Gold Winners: Sukhi's Potato Samosas with Cilantro Chutney (Outstanding Frozen Savory in 2009) and Sukhi's Tikka Masala Sauce (Outstanding Cooking Sauce or Flavor Enhancer in 2008). As more Americans develop an appetite for ethnic cuisines, retailers can plan to keep shelves stocked with Sukhi's gourmet goodies. Suggested retail price: $4.99/7 ounces.
