European Designs Distinguish a Carmel Boutique B Y R E N E E B R I N C K S F atima Assar fell for fashion as a teenager living in England. Today, she brings that appreciation for European style to her Carmel women's boutique. The racks at Jolie Carmel by the Sea feature some of Assar's favorite person- ally selected pieces. Breezy wrap dresses with feminine patterns. Bold jackets crafted from rich fabrics. Modern tunics versatile enough for lunch meetings and evenings out. Delicate ear- rings made of hammered metal. "We have jewelry from Israel, and our cloth- ing lines come from places like Italy, Paris and Germany," Assar says. "I look for pieces that are high-quality and unique." Jolie draws a mix of locals and guests who return to the store each time they visit Carmel. And Assar recently created a way for customers to look good while giving back. This spring, she launched a series of Jolie shopping events that benefit local charities. The first open house raised money for CASA of Monterey County, a group supporting children in need. Assar appreciates the chance to connect with community groups while making customers smile. "I love watching people's faces when they find an outfit that works," she says. "You can just see their confidence soar." For store hours and information on Jolie Carmel by the Sea, please visit www.joliecarmel.com or call 831/622-0906.
