Have a Whale of a Time Discovering Monterey Bay B Y C H R I S T I N A - L A U R E N P O L L A C K R enowned for its unique geographical positioning and natural landscape, Monterey Bay is a fascinating place to explore on land and by sea. Providing sanctuary for an abundance of wildlife, the Bay is a diverse eco- system that's ideal for discovering by boat. The newest family friendly whale watching tour that brings aquatic life close-up is Discovery Whale Watch. Upon entering the Fisherman's Wharf bungalow, guests are informed about the wildlife they can expect to see on tour : including Humpback whales, Risso's dolphins, sea otters, sea lions, birds, and more. An intimate size sets the tour apart; with fewer guests on board, there is comfortable seating for prime viewing. Katlyn Taylor, a marine biologist and Manager of Discovery Whale Watch says, "Monterey Bay is the premier destination for whale watching due to the nutrient-rich environment and deep water canyon close to shore. It's a hotspot for a wide variety of marine life, especially whales." One of the tour guests, Monterey Peninsula resident James Molinaro, adds, "Whale watching enables you to observe animals in their natural habitat, which heightens the experience for everyone on board."
