Exotics on Display The Rarest Cars Converge on Canner y Row B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D F or four hours on Friday, August 18, Cannery Row will be transformed into the world's most exclu- sive parking lot. That's when one of the world's most- famous streets hosts Exotics on Cannery Row (EOCR), a showcase for some of the rarest, most coveted—and most expensive — examples of automotive art will be displayed. 2017 marks the third year for the event, the brainchild of Cannery Row Company Director of Marketing Erik Uppman, a Monterey Peninsula native who returned home a few years ago after working in the automobile marketing industry in Detroit and San Francisco. "I thought, 'What if we did a different spin on Car Week?' " he says. "I was intrigued by the idea of the juxtaposition of these incredibly high-tech, hand-crafted machines against the industrial backdrop of Cannery Row." EOCR was an instant hit. More than 150 super, hyper and exotic cars will be on dis- play from manufacturers with marques both familiar and eso- teric: Bugatti, Ferrari, Pagani, McLaren, Koenigsegg. Owners of these machines belong to a rare club indeed. "This is a different world," Uppman says. "These are truly the unicorns of the car sphere."
