Salinas Studio Teaches Generations to Dance B Y M I C H A E L C H AT F I E L D J udging by the plethora of five-star reviews that happy students and parents have awarded Jeanne Robinson's Dance Arts Studio, this is indeed a popular place, as is the ever- bright and cheerful owner. "I absolutely love what I do," she says. When Salinas native Robinson bought the studio in 1988, she had already been teaching there for a while…since 1961, to be exact. "I was 14 when I star ted here," she explains, "I'm 70 now. Not a sad 70, though. A sensa- tional 70!" In addition to teaching, she has performed in countless musical theater productions with Hartnell College and the Western Stage. Her favorite role is Miss Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls." "I love it because I also get to sing as well as dance," Robinson says. The studio's 16 full and part-time instructors teach classes in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, hip-hop, acrobatics, yoga, ballroom, baton and belly danc- ing six days each week. "We average about 350 students each year," Robinson says. That's more than 10,000 in the 29 years she has owned the business. "We have children of students learning dance, and now we're star ting to see kids whose grandparents studied here."
