The Little Kernel donates 25 cents per
case sold to Generation Rescue, and donates
$2500 to the organization every April in
recognition of Autism Awareness Month.
These proceeds go towards the families that
are using Generation Rescue as a resource,
providing them with the tools they need.
Additionally, the Lauritas are ambassadors
for Generation Rescue, doing a lot of public
speaking and traveling around the country
to inform people about the work the orga-
nization does.
"We do everything we can to help raise
awareness and money for the community,"
says Epstein.
In addition to donating proceeds to
Generation Rescue, Laurita and Epstein
participate in several of Generation Rescue's
events where they donate product, includ-
ing a recent concert with New Kids on the
Block to benefit the organization.
A Better Snack for All
As Laurita and Epstein started to research
the snack sector for something that could
appeal to children with autism who need
to be on a strict diet but also want to enjoy
tasty and safe snacks, the popcorn category
seemed promising.
"After doing research in the popcorn
category, we realized there are only a couple
of brands that are really driving the busi-
ness, and there are so many types of kernels:
small kernels, large, and so many different
varieties," says Laurita.
In the end, Laurita and Epstein decided
on small kernels because of the benefits as a
point of difference. The name The Little
Kernel even references this, as it was con-
