26 MAY/JUNE 2017 SPORT ROCKETRY by two (one upper and one lower) high quality nylon straps that were fed through 3D printed pyro blocks secured to the doors; each door had an upper and lower pyro block. This provided redundancy in that only one of two upper and one of two lower pyro blocks had to fire successfully to properly release the payload bay doors. Archetype Rocketry cable cutters were housed in each the four payload bay door Photo 18. Products used for the clear finish on the rocket. pyro blocks. Power for pyro events was supplied to each payload bay door using cables with "break-away" con- nectors. Payload bay door ejection was assisted with two spring-loaded pistons mounted in the upper as- sembly. These pis- tons "pushed" the top of each pay- load bay door out after the pyro event released the nylon door straps, creat- ing an "air-ram" effect to effectively push the doors off and away from the airframe at apogee. The lower airframe assembly housed a 58mm motor mount (at launch, I used a 38mm adapter for the se- lected motor), fin can, and the land- er deck.
