B assist Kyle Eastwood's new album "In Transit" has arrived. It features an old school, throwback feel, and that's a good thing. "I'm definitely influenced by the music of the 1950s and the Blue Note era," says Eastwood. "My parents listened to a lot of jazz and big band music when I was growing up. The first live music I remember hearing was Count Basie with my dad at the Monterey Jazz Festival." He's not a jazz snob, though. "I love a lot of different kinds of music," he says. "My iPod has a ton of genres on it, everything from Led Zeppelin to Benny Goodman to Bjork to Radiohead." The bassist tours a great deal and he always keeps his ears open. "In Transit" features Eastwood's working band. "It's a good representation of my quintet, with the addition of an alto sax on a few tracks," he says. Recorded in Paris, it was released October 20 on Jazz Village. The tunes are a mix of originals penned by Eastwood and his band and covers he wanted to record by artists such as Charles Mingus. Kyle Eastwood's new jazz album is now available at Do Re Mi Music & Video at Carmel Rancho Shopping Center or online at www.kyleeastwood.com.
