Nonabsorbable Suture
SILK
Suture Type Material Color(s)
SILK Braided Black
Description: Silk is a sterile, braided, non-absorbable, surgical suture
composed of an organic protein called fibroin. This protein is derived
from the domesticated species Bombyx mori (B. mori) of the family
Bombycidae.
Indication: Silk sutures are indicated for use in animals only in
general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in
cardiovascular, ophthalmic, and neurological procedures.
Features:
• Braided for easy handling and secure knot tying
• Silicone coated facilitates smooth passage through tissue and easy
handling
• Nonabsorbable: progressive degradation of the silk fiber in vivo
results in gradual loss of the suture's tensile strength over time
Warning: Sutures should not be used if package is opened or
damaged or if the expiration date has been exceeded. Discard open
unused suture. Do not resterilize; resterilization may alter the physical
properties of this suture, which will result in an adverse patient reaction.
