"We the People" Constitution Tour and Challenge eighth season of bringing the U.S. Constitution to life for 8th graders throughout the DC public school system. Students that participate begin their day at the Capitol and end at the Archives, after stops at Lafayette Park (outside the White House), the Lincoln Memorial, the Supreme Court, and lunch at the A s we get nearer to November, the We the People Constitution Trolley Tour is preparing for its House Historical Association, the Federal Courts, the National Park Service, Children's Concierge, Old Town Trolley Tours, and Sodexo. The tours run from the beginning of November until the first week of March. Last year, 27 DC public and public charter schools participated in tours, totaling over 1,600 students and teachers. To date, more than 10,000 students have participated. While the tour is the core of the program, nearly Students arrive at the U.S. Capitol, their first stop on the tour. Department of Agriculture. It is sponsored exclu- sively by the Brown Rudnick Charitable Foundation. Those teachers and schools who take part in the trol- ley tour are encouraged to take that learning a step further by continuing to build upon the lessons learned on the tour with their students and to provide us with examples of ways in which they have extended those lessons throughout the rest of the school year. The school that demonstrates the highest quality of such activities wins the Challenge and receives both a plaque and a $1,000 grant from Brown Rudnick. Several honorable mention awards are given as well. This year's winner of the We the People Challenge was Cesar Chavez Public Charter School, with Honor- able Mention plaques awarded to Maya Angelou PCS, Shaw Middle School at Garnett-Patterson, and Colum- bia Heights Education Campus. Members of the consor- tium attended assemblies at Maya Angelou, Columbia Students from Stuart Hobson Middle School see how the Capitol's structure mirrors its bicameral function. Heights, and Cesar Chavez PCS to present the awards. Paul Enzinna from Brown Rudnick joined the Consor- tium at Cesar Chavez PCS to celebrate their Challenge win. All were lively occasions and the students, teachers, and administrators from each school were rightly proud of their students' accomplishments. The We the People program is a unique educational opportunity for the District's 8th graders to see some of the most important historic buildings and documents in our nation's history.
