ANNUAL EVENT Honors Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry shares memories from his years on the committee. ON JULY 10, 2012, the U.S. Capitol Historical Society honored the history and accomplishments of the Senate Commit- tee on Foreign Relations with a reception and dinner. Remarks were given by Chairman John Kerry (MA) and Ranking Member Richard Lugar (IN), and the keynote address was given by the Honor- able Chuck Hagel. USCHS ANNUAL SUMMER Brown Bag Series THIS SUMMER'S annual brown bag lecture series featured a number of wonderful speakers on a wide variety of topics. Some of them were focusing on changes to the institutional aspects of the Congress, while others examined ground, as well as his role in command- ing the largest British force to ever approach and enter Washington, DC in August 1814, culminating in the burn- ing of both the Capitol and the White House, in retaliation for the burning of McCavitt the Capitol itself. It was a truly interest- ing series of lectures from an accom- plished group of individuals. Next, former House parliamentarian Charles Johnson spoke about the procedural changes in the House over the past several decades.
