The commitment to the Ordos cause goes beyond just fancy evenings out and a day at the races. Before the starting gate sprung open on race day, dignitaries were invited to the official opening of the Ordos Horse Museum and Manor by Teo and Yiqi Mayor Hua Ruifeng. Located next to the racecourse, the museum is a mix of local and international equine history. "Essentially, this museum is captur- ing 5,000 years of equine history both throughout China and around the world," said Harrington. "The Ordos Horse Muse- um is not only here to provide some back- ground as to what happens in Ordos, but it is seen long-term as an educational fa- cility. "It continues the idea of CECF as a plat- form for the exchange of information, as a way to educate the local audience, and potentially even you might bring school children here to share racing with them and educate them about it." Beyond those goals, the structure is also serving as a model home for the manor project that is underway. The museum/ house occupies 10 hectares of land, is a two-story villa made of wood, and also has an outdoor area that includes a pri- vate stable, which can accommodate up to 20 horses, as well as paddock space. It was the first of 230 such homes to be built. Past, Present, Future The Horse Culture Gallery and Manor
