It wasn't until Rohrbach's third round — which began on the 10th tee at Pebble Beach Golf Links—that her game came together. She played a series of perfect shots en route to natural birdies on the 14th, 18th, second, third and fourth holes. "The 80-foot putt she made for birdie on number three was an elec- tric moment," says her caddie Kevin Price, a local golf zealot. "There was as big crowd there, and as we walked to the fourth tee everyone was shouting encouragement: 'Keep it up, Kelly! Way to go, Kelly! Make another one, Kelly!' And she did! That birdie run was the coolest experience I've ever had on a golf course." The connection Rohrbach felt with the gallery was one of the biggest takeaways of the week. "I was expecting it to be more intimidating or nerve-wracking," she said in a recent phone interview. "But it was fun, because the crowd engages with you. It's a lovely group of people there, they really made it fun. And that was moti- vating—I wanted to play well for them." In the end, Rohrbach's furious rally fell just short, as her pro-am team missed the cut by a mere two strokes. The butter- flies of competing again and the flash- es of old form had a galvanizing effect on her. "The whole experience got me back into golf in a big way," Rohrbach says. "It was a huge part of my life when I was younger, I took a long break, and it's been nice to fall back in love with it again." In October, 2017, she journeyed to Scotland to play in the Dunhill Links Championship, the 106 C A R M E L M A G A Z I N E • W I N T E R 2 0 1 8 Rohrbach was embraced and energized by the large galleries at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Among her admirers was amateur playing partner Charles Kelley (in pink), of the popular band Lady Antebellum. The invitation to play at Pebble Beach last year came out of the blue and Rohrbach was so busy professionally she had precious little time to prepare.
