The design team created this warm
farmhouse kitchen by reconfiguring a show-
room display their clients loved. Their goal
was to fit a suite of upgraded appliances into
a small space. The team repurposed a
nearby stairwell as a pantry and storage for a
steam oven and coffee machine, and they
were able to reuse much of the display
cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, and
plumbing. The neutral wall and floor colors
balance the strong textures and shades of
the cabinets, countertops, backsplash, and
sink finishes. –A.H.

Designer Hannah Hacker set out to blend her
clients' contemporary notions with their rustic
surroundings in this cabin remodel. The clients
wanted expanded space for two cooks and sitting
for three, which Hacker accomplished within the
established footprint to avoid re-doing the original
hickory floor. She placed seating behind a
countertop on the room's perimeter, and
reconfigured the windows to make room for a
cooktop and hood. A monorail system provided The
lighting solution in a room with heavy tree cover and
high ceilings. Hand-stacked stone on the wall under
the counter matches the fireplace in the adjacent
living room. –A.H.
