As an avid outdoors-man he has spent his life extensively exploring remote wilderness areas in search of inspiration for new work. He states: "Nature impassions me. I am on a constant quest for that perfect subject to paint. During my outdoor adventures, such as hiking or fishing, I am inspired by the things I find. It is important to me to bring home my experiences and share them in a painting. One of the most rewarding experiences is to set up an easel cross- country on a high mountain meadow and capture the true colors found there. Also, through photography, I've documented many of my trips into the wilderness. I later use these as references along with color studies to create paintings." Some of Boyle's most popular recent work captures moody atmospheric lighting effects of early dawn or a fisherman making that last cast in the evening sunset. These effects are created using warm and cool color contrasting with light and dark values. Featured again this year in the Russell Museum Auction's "First Strike" Friday night is Boyle's painting entitled "The Golden Hour" which was inspired by an early scene on a river while fishing. The first golden rays of sunlight illuminates steam rising off the river and reflecting off the side of a Drift Boat.
