Mom's will offer a queen bee and nucleus hive for $185, which customers can order through its website and pick up at select stores, including Alexandria and Herndon, Va., and Hampden and Rockville, Md. Beekeeping equipment, including bee suits, smokers, and hives, are also available at select Mom's locations. Mom's founder and CEO Scott Nash says the BeeSA partnership is an effort to rebuild pollinator communities and is part of "Mom's Purpose" to protect and restore the environment. Pollinators are being wiped out by the toxic pesticides applied to farms and lawns everywhere, according to the retailer. Metallica's Riff on Spirits Thrash bands like Motörhead and Anthrax have already done it—and now Metallica is planning to distill whiskey. Having success with a limited-edition beer back in 2015, the band's next hit is a partnership with master distiller Dave Pickerell, formerly of Maker's Mark and Vermont's WhistlePig, to make whiskey and open a distillery. 22 ❘ SPECIALTY FOOD MAGAZINE specialtyfood.com
