Zoo News m em b er maga zin e 18 MEMBER NEWS HATcHES & mATcHES The zoos are places of love, new life and sometimes loss. check out the latest animal happens at your zoos. + 9 Recently we hatched nine Centralian Blue-tongued lizards at Melbourne Zoo. We're expecting to start seeing a tiny Tree-kangaroo moving around in mum's pouch in the winter months at Healesville Sanctuary. If all goes well we may see the tiny little one start to pop its head out of mum's pouch in August! The Baboon troop continues to grow with another new arrival born at Melbourne Zoo earlier this year, making five babies in the group! In March we said goodbye to beautiful Sassafras, a hand- raised, cheeky and bold Tasmanian Devil. At seven years old she had lived a long life and will be very much missed by keepers, whose feet she liked to sit at, whether they were trying to work or not! Three penguins hatched at Melbourne Zoo alongside three Carolina Box Turtles and five Star Tortoise! A brand new baby Cotton-top Tamarin now calls Melbourne Zoo home. Two adult oryx have arrived to Werribee Open Range Zoo from Monarto Zoo in Adelaide. In very exciting news, eight Plains-wanderers have joined the breeding program at Werribee Open Range Zoo. + 1 + 3 + 3 + 5 + 2 =
