The retraining, rehoming, and retirement of racehors- es has never been more talked about than it is now. Former racehorses are finding careers rehabilitating incarcerated men and women, helping soldiers heal from PTSD, and shining in the show ring. That last disci- pline could get a big boost this October from the first foal out of one of the most popular racehorses in his- tory, Zenyatta. Unsuccessful on the track, Cozmic One has taken to his second career with aplomb, no small thanks to his rider, Isabela de Sousa. Christie DeBer- nardis catches up with her this month. If you're coming to the Haskell, don't miss a meal at Restaurant Nicho- las, one of the country's top-rated eateries, right here in Red Bank, New Jersey, the home of the TDN and just a stone's throw from Monmouth Park. Also this month, Perry Lefko eats his way across Toronto, all in service to TDN Weekend readers. He'll help guide you if you're running a horse in this summer and fall's Woodbine in- ternational races. Speaking of tough assignments, the TDN's Alayna Cullen put in a weekend at Ashford Cas- tle, named the number 2 resort in the UK or Ireland by Travel & Leisure. And finally, Chantilly approaches its 200th anniversary as France's premier training center. It's just a half-hour from Paris, but our Emma Berry tells us it's a world away.
