I think our presence finally began to bother them so they slowly made their way to the water and quietly disappeared beneath the surface. The low angle of the sun made for a striking reflection. BLACK MANED LION When we first saw this large male lion he was sleeping on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. Probably our vehicle disturbed him and he lifted his head into the wind, which accounts for the flowing mane.
