Verde Valley Healthcare Keeping Pace with the Growing Population The entire Verde Valley area, including Sedona, has joined together to make healthcare a priority for all residents. The central hub of medical facilities is the Verde Valley Medical Center (VVMC) located in Cottonwood. Its central campus encompasses 325,000 square feet, this advanced medical center provides top-notch medical services to the greater Verde Valley area. In addition to recent renovations to over 45,000 square feet of existing space, VVMC features a new women's health division as well as new medical/surgical and monitored care units. Verde Valley Medical Center provides quintessential programs specifically designed for the Verde Valley community. They are the only facility north of Phoenix that provides a Senior Lifestyle Behavioral Health Program. The professional treatment team has been specifically trained to provide group and individual sessions geared toward the improvement of senior life. Another inventive service is the Paws for Patients program that honors the healing ability of animals. Patients connect with therapy dogs, certified by the Delta Society, to provide an environment of well being for patients filled with stress or anxiety about their hospital stay. well as treatment of behavioral issues and holistic approaches to health. Rainbow Acres is a non-profit, assisted living ranch for adults of all ages who have developmental disabilities. This Christian organization is geared toward helping these individuals develop job, social behavior and self-help skills. They provide a learning center, vocational training and access to the Special Olympics. ACTION Partnership for People with Special Needs is a non-profit community action team that promotes the partnership among families, agencies and community members. The goal is to create an environment throughout the Verde Valley that is inclusive of people with special needs. ACTION provides training and workshops throughout the year in addition to holiday parties for children and families. The Victory Ranch for Children, located in Camp Verde, provides opportunities for children with a troubled background to rebuild their lives. The goal is for the children to return to their families as strong, confident individuals. Active retirees are encouraged to volunteer as a 'Grandparent' companion in the lives of these children. In addition to medical services, the Verde Valley area has taken into account its high senior and retired demographic and opened the door for these adults to have more than just a quality lifestyle. Developed out of the community's interest in lifetime education, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), fully sponsored and supported by Yavapai Community College, was created to meet the needs and interests of retirement-age citizens. Classes are held at the Yavapai College Verde Valley Campus and the Yavapai College Sedona Center for Arts and Technology. Known as "A Health Club for the Mind," OLLI is dedicated to providing peer-supported and peer-directed learning for active adults. Structured with a no test, no papers, no pressure environment, students are free to learn about and Verde Valley Medical Center services are expanded by their Sedona campus. This outpatient clinic is designed to provide primary healthcare along with emergency services. The Sedona campus is also home to a remarkable Cancer Center. It has been designed to include a multi-disciplinary staff dedicated to professional treatment. Healthcare Verde Valley Medical Center also has substantial facilities for maternity and family services. Plus, they offer complete before and after care programs for new families. Healthy Families is a grant-funded program that provides parenting information/ education, developmental screening and parent support groups. The First Steps outreach program offers new parents in-home visits, check-up calls and many resources. VVMC is also part of the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program that ensures all newborn are checked for signs of hearing loss. The wellness and health of all Verde Valley residents is a main priority especially the children. Red Rock Pediatrics in Cottonwood is home to group of physicians and staff members committed to providing quality care for children and teens. They offer "interview appointments" to make sure the concerns and expectations of the child/teen and the family are fully addressed.
