One day, Jim and his horse were traveling through Yellowstone country looking for food. It had been a dry summer, and there were no animals around because they had all gone in search of water. Jim was so hungry he had even eaten one of his moccasins. Then, up ahead, Jim spied a thick, green forest, and thinking he would find a meal there, he rode on into the trees. Sure enough, there were rabbits, sage hens, and bears sitting, standing, and eating. But there was something very strange about the forest. Jim got off his horse and scratched his head, as he usually did when he had some thinking to do. 22
