One day, Jim and his horse were
traveling through Yellowstone
country looking for food. It
had been a dry summer, and there
were no animals around because
they had all gone in search of
water. Jim was so hungry he had
even eaten one of his moccasins.
Then, up ahead, Jim spied a thick,
green forest, and thinking he
would find a meal there, he
rode on into the trees.
Sure enough, there were rabbits, sage hens,
and bears sitting, standing, and eating.
But there was something very strange
about the forest. Jim got off his horse
and scratched his head, as he usually did
when he had some thinking to do.
