SIE BOXSTER - PART 2 When we last left you, we had stripped a bunch of weight out of the Boxster, done the essential cooling system maintenance, replaced the brakes, and beat the tar out of the car at Hallett. Everything was running great, so it was time to jump to the next stage. The first thing to do was to fit a set of Recaro Pole Position seats into the car coupled with Schroth 6 point GT3 harnesses to keep from sliding around in the seat. While going through the interior, we decided to keep the Boxster Red interior complete (Ie…for sale!), and sourced a black vinyl dash for the car on the cheap. With the dash out of the car, I pulled the heater core assembly to get rid of more weight ☺ building the cage around the seats that will be in the car, and not try to fit seats later. During race conditions, the passenger seat can easily be removed from the car. As mentioned before, then that nice dash had to be saved, and replaced with something more common: A black vinyl dash which we sourced from the parts yard. The heater core also comes out at this point to save weight and the coolant lines for the heater core are pulled all the way back to the motor where they are looped as seen below: car! It is starting to look like a race TECHNICAL EDITOR LD TO WILD By Karl Wilen We talked about upgrading the car to the 996 center radiator last issue, so that was on the block this issue. This is a very common upgrade to track cars and allows a little extra cooling area. The kit is 100% bolt in with the existing radiators and Porsche parts. Then something glorious happened. Fun go fast parts showed up! The Bilstein Pss9 suspension, Swift 400/500lb spring upgrade, Tarrett sway bars It is starting to look like a race car! Pole position seats installed along with a Rothsport quick release hub and Momo steering wheel for easy egress from the car. This will be helpful once the cage is in place. Schroth 6 point harnesses are Hans compatible for driver safety. I always like Then something glorious happened. Fun go fast parts showed up! January / February 2014 11
