May / June 2014 28 that the fuel pump, which was lightly used had failed. This is now the 4th pump on the car in its short life as a Chumpcar. We are not talking cheap aftermarket pumps but Porsche/Bosch oem pumps, so something is causing them to have a short life. Ron Leonard's Fine Sausage Team have been running well since the start, and with no penalties have been consistently in the top 10. I take the reins for the run to the finish. We have had a perfect race thus far, and now in top 10. Being so far off the lead, there is nothing we can really do except keep pushing for the end, and perhaps get to top 5. As time goes by, I get reports of added laps, lost laps etc as timing and scoring is having issues. I then hear that we are running 2nd. "How can that be?" I ask. It turns out a couple of the lead cars had issues and allowed us to move up. As we run to the finish I am elated to hold on to second. It gets even better as I find out Fine Sausages passed the 3rd place car, just 2 corners from the finish. They hold on by ½ a car length to take 3rd. So its Kansas City 2nd and 3rd. The top 5 cars go to impound. Its worse than F1 as we have to jack the cars 2 feet off the ground with all wheels off so fellow competitors can check for legality. The 4th car Team 4CGM protest our car for having a different differential than what was delivered from the factory. It happens to be the exact same differential that they have, but as BMW change ratios over the years the protest is absolutely correct and we are disqualified. Oh well, we had no expectations of competing for podium so its no big deal. That elevates Fine Sausages to 2nd so it's not all bad. We then figured out what "4CGM" stood for. Its 4 Crying Girls, and you can make up your own "M". Al gets car 54 sorted with a new high tech American Holley fuel pump, having given up on fragile Porsche equipment. Fine Sausages finished well, so all three teams are poised for a great run on Sunday. For Sunday our penalty grows from 3 to 6 laps with axle swap. We figure we were effectively 5 laps down of Saturday with the unfortunate green and the pace car. If we get a good green then we are back to where we started Saturday. We had goals for Sunday, not only finish, but more importantly finish ahead of the 4 crying girls. Luck was not with us again, as the green fell
