May / June 2014 29 just behind us again and in front of 4CGM. Again we start in the 40's. Paulo is in first again and sets off with nice clean consistent laps. I go in 2nd. I often go in last both days, but am often handed a tired car with no tires and brakes left. It's a joy to have the car in great condition. I can hear the front wheel bearings start rumbling. Typically they don't grenade so we press on as normal. We continue to move up the ladder again. Top 10 looks difficult but doable. Jason is in next and starts reporting weak brakes. Car 54 is running great with the Holley pump, Go USA. Unfortunately the cabin fuel leak returns and unscheduled stops makes it difficult to compete. Fine Sausages is running well again and in the hunt. Brian is in last for the run to the finish. With an hour to go Brian reports complete brake failure. We bring in Helga for a brake job. The front brakes are so overheated that the piston has pushed through the backing plate, and fluid has leaked out. Quick fix, and we are back on track. We met our primary goal of finishing and driving back on the trailer. We did not meet our secondary goal of beating 4 crying girls. Dang we will have to do that another day. Fine sausages had a very unfortunate last hour. They were engaged in a heavy impact with a Miata. The engine was knocking. The transmission bleeding valuable life blood, and a broken rear end. So much fixing required before their car races again. So the good- Cobwebs blown off, driveline is functioning well, and Helga continues to be a hoot to drive. Penalty laps are frustrating but its proven we can still have fun. We finished both days and have a car almost ready for Hastings May 3-4. - Richard It gets even better as I find out Fine Sausages passed the 3rd place car, just 2 corners from the finish. They hold on by ½ a car length to take 3rd. So its Kansas City 2nd and 3rd!
