Mid-year Check-up With 2014 already half over, now is a good time to give your retirement plan a mid-year c h e c k - u p . R e - e v a l u a t i n g your retirement plan at least once during the year will prove beneficial in the long run. Ask yourself the following questions: Has the plan been working for me? Have I run into any roadblocks? Do I need to make any changes? When re-evaluating your plan, follow these steps: • EXAMINE YOUR BUDGET: Is it realistic for you? Is it allowing you to set aside money regularly for retirement? Have you been able to follow it? Consider making any necessary adjustments to your budget now so that you can continue to follow it for the remainder of the year. • MONITOR YOUR SAVINGS: Where are you saving? Whether saving with an IRA or employer plan, it's a good idea to monitor your investments. • CONSIDER INVESTMENTS: If saving with an IRA, you can invest your IRA. IRAs are open to several types of investments, such as CDs, mutual funds, money market funds, stocks, bonds, and even real estate. • REVIEW COMPANY PLAN: Does your employer offer a retirement plan? You generally can change how and where those assets are allocated, as you see fit. Keeping tabs on the status of your IRA and retirement plan investments is not only to your advantage, but critical to the growth of your retirement dollars. You may need to re-analyze your savings strategy, reposition your assets, and redefine your retirement goals more often along the way. Saving for retirement is an ongoing effort that requires regular attention. Most of all, don't give up! Even when unexpected events occur and throw you off track. Try not to lose sight of your retirement plan. When obstacles arise, continue to make adjustments as you need. Always remember, we're here for you if you need help.
