July / August 2014 28 is off and running. We finish the race in 4th place. Chump Faces brings home 1st, and F1 1ab's brings home 2nd! Not too shabby! The contact we had did end up causing some additional suspension damage which I was able to patch up that night in the dark. We were ready for Sunday's 6 hour race! Unfortunately, we did not plan for the correct tire usage with the aggressive surface of the track, so our Sunday tire selection was not looking good. We would have to make due with what we had. Al ran to walmart and flipped some corded tires on the rims so the cords were on the no wear edge of the tire for Sunday in case we needed them. F1 1ab's and Chump Faces were in the same boat. Should have brought one more set of new tires ☺ Sunday morning we got a pretty favorable start (again a random start). We decided that we should only run 3 drivers their full 2 hour stints on Sunday, versus running the 4 guys shorter stints as the extra pit stop would hurt us time wise. Mike went out and put 2 laps on the rest of the field pretty quickly, moving us up to 1st. Erik went out 2nd and continued to create distance and hold 1st. On the last pit stop, Tim and I swapped the front two tires for some crappy spares we had, and then I jumped in the car as the guys got it fueled. My specific instructions for screwing on the fuel cap correctly were ignored, and as soon as I made to about the 2nd corner, I knew we were losing fuel out the fuel cap under hard cornering (said offender received 10 lashes). Looking around, the fuel wasn't coming in the cabin, so I wasn't going to pit unless black flagged. Luckily, the car had no grip with the corded tires, so I couldn't toss it around too much! 45 minutes into the stint, 4 laps up, I started getting fuel cut in certain corners. We were losing fuel faster than I thought, but luckily no black flag. I was watching race monitor on the Verizon tablet as I drove in order to monitor our lead over the other cars (sometimes I like to watch ESPN, you know to check the scores, sometimes I pull up Game of Thrones on HBO Go, typical stuff when driving a race car at speed). I could see F1 1ab's and Chump Faces making up ground quickly….doing the quick math in my head, I figured we should be ok, so I was able to taper off to try and make the car last. Mike went out and put 2 laps on the rest of the field pretty quickly, moving us up to 1st...
