September / October 2014 39 d'Elegance held at the Old Del Monte Golf Club, adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel. Terry entered his Cayman in the street Boxster/Cayman class, so finding Terry's car was the first objective of the day. As Hiromi and I walked onto the golf course, we were pleasantly surprised to see our old friend, Jan Pierce. I thought we might bump into Jan and Doug, now members of the Las Vegas Region, and was happily surprised to see them first thing Monday morning. During the week we also met up with Rob and Connie Waldrop, Sean Reardon, Caren Cooper, and Keith and Kim Fritze (our Zone 10 rep). Other members attending from KCRPCA included: Steve and Brenda Wilson, and William and Linda Hartong (who also entered their immaculate 1959 Porsche 356A in the concours competition). Getting back to the concours, it featured an unbelievable collection of Porsches, running the gamut of rare models to famous racecars. For a Porsche lover, this was a slice of heaven. Terry finished 8th in his class. Not bad for a rookie. The highlight had to be when Hans Peter Porsche, grandson of Porsche founder, Ferdinand Porsche, posed next to Terry's car in a matching green ensemble. I'm pretty sure Terry was the only concours entrant who drove his car in the HPDE at Laguna Seca on Saturday and Sunday. Later that evening, Terry, Lori, Hiromi, and I were privileged to attend the PCA President's banquet. Thanks to the generosity of GPR President, Tom Cooper and KCRPCA President, Bob Wayman we were able to receive their tickets to the event as a gift. And what an event it was! Held at the Monterey Plaza Hotel, on famous Cannery Row, it featured a night of fine dining either indoors or outside on the patio fronting the Pacific Ocean. The next morning we assembled at Monterey Peninsula College, which served as the staging area for the Big Sur fun run. The route was an 80 mile drive down the Pacific Coast Highway stopping for lunch at the Ragged Point Inn before making the return drive to Monterey. The event was well organized and drivers were encouraged to make the drive down without stopping but take as much time as needed for taking photographs on the way back. It was a spectacular drive with breathtaking scenery along this wonderfully winding route with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop. Wednesday was the last day in Monterey for my sister, Lori, so we used the time to take the famous 17- mile Drive from Pacific Grove to Pebble Beach. The road provides vistas of golf courses including Spyglass Hill, Cypress Point and Pebble Beach. We decided to stop for lunch at the Pebble Beach Golf Course. Lori flew back to Texas that afternoon, but Hiromi and I used the time to go shopping on Cannery Row and visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. On Thursday I dropped the Porsche off for an oil change at Porsche of Monterey. (Thank you Kurt Gibson for the recommendation.) While the car was being serviced I returned to the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and headed down to the car wash to attend an informal paint chip repair seminar by a representative from Dr. Colorchip. Finally the weekend arrived and along with it the crown jewel of the trip, T he route was an 80 mile drive down the Pacific Coast Highway stopping for lunch at the Ragged Point Inn before making the return drive to Monterey.
