November / December 2014 20 it's own right. But that is an- other story. My Saturday breakfast routine starts at 6:00 AM. Make that, 6:00 AM plus a snooze bar. The house is quiet. I slip out of bed try- ing not to wake the lovely wife or stir the sleeping kids. I slip on jeans, socks, shoes, ball cap, but wait a dilemma. Which shirt do I wear? Prop- er attire is not mandatory, but it is understood that some type of Porsche branded shirt be worn. It is the one time when the act of wearing the insignia of a brand I enthusi- astically support is also sup- ported. Once dressed, I head downstairs. The dog yawns, probably wonders if it is a jogging morning or not. It is not. It's a breakfast morning. Keys in hand I head to the garage. I open the door and smile. It's still there. From Matchbox-dreams, to multi- ple posters and screen savers, to finally being in my garage. It is there waiting for me. My Porsche. I open the garage door and the cool morning air rushes in and chills my skin. Stepping out onto the drive- way I survey the sky. Dark blue. To the east the clouds are losing their dull night gray and beginning to return to their rightful puffy-white. Standing here I can see their edges starting to glow yellow and pink as the day begins. I need to leave or I will be late. This is my time, breakfast time. I reach for the car's door handle, its purposeful lines feel cool to the touch. Open- ing the door I am greeted to the smell of leather, Amor All and speed. I slide inside. The door closes with a familiar mechanical click. I grip the steering wheel, pause for a moment and smile. I miss my dad - he'd love this. It's just me for the moment. Twisting the key and the engine growls to life, being awakened from its slumber, but soon settles into its steady rhythm. Now it is the two of us. A few revs of the engine and I select reverse. Rolling down the driveway the dog presses his nose to the win- dow. Sorry buddy, maybe next time. This is my time, breakfast time. I think a cup of coffee is in order on this cool morn- ing. It will keep my hands warm. I pull in to the local bean-roasting establishment and park the car. Hopping out I laugh at myself. Did I re- ally just tell my car "be right back?" Hot coffee in hand and heading back to the car I am stopped. I have been a long time fan of the graceful lines of a Porsche. Over the years its well penned hips have widened, smoothed, widened and smoothed again. Even the famous headlights have changed over the years. But today, in this light, on this morning, the flowing lines gently reflecting the pink and yellow sunrise make this one beautiful car.
