January / February 2015 37 odometer was broken, I have no idea how many miles were on the car, but I drove it endlessly. After a couple years I bought my wife a cherry 1990 944 S2 cab, with very low mileage. After 14 years of ownership I reluctantly sold both Porsche cars. Our son also had a yellow 914 which he drove until he joined the USAF, and took that with him. While we were Porsche-less for 15 years, we also sorely missed the camaraderie of our fellow Porsche enthusiasts. We realized it really was "the people" that made the difference too. In late October 2014 my son flew up to Colorado Springs from OKC, and I drove there from Junction City. Our mission was to visit the USAF Academy cemetery to pay our respects to a dear friend of the family. My son suggested we visit some car dealerships afterwards to cheer us up. We ultimately wound up at the Porsche dealership and saw an as-new (Speed Yellow) 2002 Porsche Turbo (X-50 package), which had 12,126 miles on it! The owner of the dealership used this as his personal car for 9 years, racking up 2,000 miles on it. He sold it to a lady who owned it for the next 3 years and she put 9,000 miles on it. The car was loaded with options (the dealer himself special ordered it to his liking). My son and I test drove it. I came home on bended knees to my wife, and we wound up buying it. The morning we were leaving the hotel in Colorado Springs to bring our new 911 home I went online and rejoined the PCA! Since being back home with it I was contacted by the KCPCR membership chairman ("T"), and he welcomed me back into the KC PCA Region, and told me about the breakfast get togethers every Saturday. I told Cathy afterwards that I just talked with a man whom it felt like I had known for years as he was so personable, pleasant, and welcoming to us into the club. I met my new friends yesterday at the breakfast in KC and felt like I was back home. It was "magical" to me, pulling up in my 911 alongside the other beautiful Porsche cars, and the members coming up to me offering their hand, and the Porsche chat began! Afterwards we buzzed over to Aristocrat for some more Porsche chat (and dreaming of what to buy if we won the lotto). I've told Cathy that I'm giddy with glee at having another Porsche car, but especially so after being back with our new friends in our region. We look forward to the years ahead and I promise I will "never" leave the car club with the most exciting cars in the world, and with the nicest, most gracious people ever. Thank you for your hospitality and friendship, and I will be making as many events as we can fit into our schedule. Ron and Cathy Stopfer, Junction City, KS.
