March / April 2015 24 11. Touch up if necessary Hint: When buffing with a microfiber towel use as little pressure as possible to get the job done - the towel will scratch the paint finish if you use too much pressure Now its time for the easy part, lets wax the car: 1. Pick a good Carnauba wax (not a cleaner wax) - I recommend P21S 100% Carnauba wax 2. Again use a clean applicator to put the wax on (P21S comes with it's own and you can order extra applicators) 3. Since the wax has to haze over before removing it, you should be applying your wax over larger areas then you did with the glaze (I like to start with the hood again applying your wax from the top of the hood working down to the bottom) 4. Be careful not to get wax into hood, trunk and door gaps, door handles, etc - when applying the wax stop 1/4 inch away from edge (when buffing off the wax push it lightly into those places so as not to get too much wax in them) 5. After finishing the hood let it set up while you apply wax on your next area 6. When buffing off the wax use long strokes moving back and forth until all the streaks are gone (Use two towels with this process - use the first one to remove as much wax as possible - keeping the second one clean to lightly rebuff the area again) 7. During the buffing process work in areas of about 2ft x 3ft overlapping each area a little to blend in smoothly 8. Continue this process until the whole car is done 9. Next step is to get two clean microfiber towels; spraying the first one until it is just a little damp leaving the second one dry 10. Start by opening the hood, trunk and doors - use damp towel and go over all the gap edges and into jambs to remove any wax 11. Then using the second towel very lightly buff the areas in long strokes until all traces of wax are removed (keep the damp towel moist but not wet - you will have to keep spraying it throughout the process) 12. After doing all the gaps and jambs repeat this process on all painted surfaces until the whole car is done Hint: You will probably see small dots of wax show up after running the damp towel over the freshly waxed paint - you want to remove this extra wax by lightly buffing it with the dry towel Wow!! Now you not only have a car that has a concours shine you have one that is protected from all those pesky contaminates out there. That wraps up this installment of the Cleaning Corner, next time we will cover how to maintain your car now that you have it perfect. - SPENCER
