May / June 2015 18 1. Getting the dust off your car is a big one. For example, when your car has road dust on it and you want to clean it without completely washing your car, what to do? The number one thing you must remember is always use a product that will remove the dust off of the finish safely. Water will not remove the dirt it will only move it around and scratch your paint. Look for a finishing spray that will remove the dust off the paint. There are a number of good finishing sprays on the market that are safe to use on your finish. I like to use Zymol finishing spray. This only works on a dusty car not a dirty car. 2. When using a finishing spray to remove dust start by folding a clean microfiber cloth 4-ways which gives you 8 clean sides and also helps spread out the pressure from your hand. Spray one panel at a time (no more than 2ft by 3ft areas at a time) using the first side of the cloth to gently remove the dust, then move to the next fold and go over the panel again polishing very lightly to remove any damp spots. Repeat this process until the complete car is done. Don't try to wipe down your entire car with one or two towels, once you have used all 8 sides of the towel put it into a hamper to be cleaned. It will take about 8 towels to clean the whole car. Clean your tires and wheels last using different towels to clean them. These towels used on wheels can never be used on your car's painted finish. Important hint: Once a microfiber cloth shows dirt never touch the car's paints finish with it, the dirty cloth will scratch the paint. Also never use a microfiber cloth that has been dropped; they pick up everything. 3. When washing your car never use any household cleaners on your car. Even dishwashing soap will dull your car's finish. There are many products out there to clean your car's finish. I like to use ICE car wash, it THE CLEAN CORNER By Spencer Cochran Porsche's Finish MAINTAINING T here are more ways to damage your paint than the four mentioned above, but I would like to go over these and explain how to prevent hurting your finish. Porsches come from the factory with one of the best paint finishes available. To keep that perfect finish is no easy task. Every time you clean your car you could be damaging your finish. Let me go over some of the ways you could hurt your paint: 1. Dusting off your car with wet or dry rags. 2. Using dirty rags to dry off your car. 3. Using strong soaps on your finish 4. Not cleaning bugs and bird poop off your car's finish.
